The Koʻolaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club was founded in 1937 and has long been at the forefront of the community in advocating for the proper management of natural resources, the perpetuation of Hawaiian cultural knowledge & practices, advocating Hawaiian rights and community related issues in the legislature, & promoting family relationships and values. This year marks an extraordinary milestone in Koʻolaupoko history as the Civic Club commemorates 80 years.

A commemorative video, with interviews of Aunty Alice Hewett, Rocky Kaluhiwa, Mahealani Cypher, Aaron Mahi, Clifford Loo and Patrice Petrich highlighted the history of the club. Special kudos to the fabulous decorations on stage and centerpieces of corporate tables, the creative design of Patti Bright Ramirez, other centerpieces designed by Kumu Hula Rich Pedrina, assisted and coordinated by Teri Loo. Congratulations are in order to overall event chair Francine Gora; silent auction chair Cheryl Prince; reservations chair Leilani Jones-Tollefsen, graphic designer Jill Akana, country store chair Nancy Davlantes, video and FB chair Keau George; makana donors Nancy Davlantes, Jennie Nakamura and Mahealani Cypher; Teresa Bright who donated 80 of her special lauhala fans; and the many others who donated items or supported the 80th anniversary celebration in countless ways!

Congratulations to our Kū I Ke Kamaʻāina Awardees: Distinguished Kama’aina of Kaneohe Bay- the Kamaka ‘ohana (with brothers Fred and Sam) and Hawaiian Memorial Park as . Also honored with the Helen C. Kane Award were Keau George and Ardis Eschenberg, chosen by President Alice Hewett.

Mahalo also to Jerry Santos, Dwight Kana`e, Nāpunaheleonāpua Kumu RichPedrina’s hula halau, and Waipuna for the great entertainment! We are truly blessed!

100% of the proceeds from the silent auction benefited the Koʻolaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club’s scholarship fund which is awarded annually to students of the Kāneʻohe-Kualoa area.
